The soul is nourished in more places than we imagine. Pastel colors gather above — for some a familiar church ceiling, for others simply a mural stretched across the sky. Below the holy scene, a dress dries on the line, small garments carrying the day's ordinary work. In the corner, an old woman sits in front of a door, wrapped in a dark red gown, waiting for whoever passes. She has been waiting a long time. The church breathes above her. The world moves quietly on. And somewhere in between, the soul is kept warm.
